7/3/08 05:28 pm - [info]scribblinlenore - Baseball RPS: Cotton Candy Colored Lip Gloss

Title: Cotton Candy Colored Lip Gloss
Fandom: Baseball RPS
Pairing: Derek Jeter/Alex Rodriguez
Rating: NC-17
Word count: ~3,000
Summary: Alex gets into some trouble. Derek helps him out.
Disclaimer: This is purely fictional! And just for fun! No harm intended!

Note: I think the word "warning" is too strong, but I did feel that I should mention there's ladies lingerie involved. And, you know, handcuffs. *g*

Derek likes to think he has as much imagination as the next person, but it never once occurred to him to wonder what Alex would look like in lingerie and makeup. If he had ever tried to picture it, no doubt he would have laughed his ass off. Yet here Alex is laid out in front of him in this little black number, and it's strangely not ridiculous... )

7/3/08 04:10 pm - [info]seperis - why is it not four thirty yet?

So. This thing.

Actually, it's not a thing, but a weirdness, and for the life of me, I cannot work out why they are acting this way.

(Note: I seriously doubt it is any of you who read here. If it were, I'd obviously flock and filter. A lot.)

Right.

Have you ever been reading along in a comm with all these people you know, and thought you have known for five billion years, and then they say something so batshit with such earnestness you kind of get why Jeffrey Dahmer's neighbors had no idea?

(Note: this is not about friends becoming serial killers. Unless you are one. In which case, please don't tell me, because I cannot take this many shocks in one day.)

It's *weird*. If this were a novel, no one would believe this characterization twist.

In far less interesting news (which is saying something), I got a sudden sharp pain in my arm and shoulder and wondered if I were having a stroke*, then ate a granola bar. I feel it brings me closer to everyone to share this.

*(Note: As it turns out, it's from using my left arm to hold up my head while sitting at my desk for six hours a day. My logic sometimes isn't earth logic. Also, I'm lazy. Surprise, surprise.)

Stealing this meme from bethbethbeth.

Sooooo...

July 3, 2007: posted PSOH/HP rec: Berlin, by Delphi; Grandpa D/Albus, PG and five Snape/Harry recs, four of them from Snarry Games.

July 3, 2006: posted Another pointless observation about villains having bad teeth.

July 3, 2005: 17 recs of fics under 20K words (OMG, I'm scary!) and Bandwidth and intellectual property theft report, i.e. report of trying to shake some manners into people from a Russian forum who hotlink art. Sorry, that offer of mine doesn't stand anymore; I don't have the free time now that I had then.

July 3, 2004: Reading rant and bitching, and some LJ links. Several rants in one, and even though my English of then makes me cringe more than my current English does, I still agree with myself in general. Surprising, that :)

July 3, 2003: nothing. But in two months, I'll create my LJ :)

I find that I like my LJ. Do you like yours? Has it turned out as you wanted it to? Do you reread your own posts? I do. Discover lot of interesting things that have been completely erased from my mind since.

7/3/08 10:12 am - [info]seperis - thursdays before vacations are good days

So.

Have you ever went back and read something you wrote the night before (all fifteen pages of it), and you can actually chart the decline of your sanity by paragraph?

I went from "probably doesn't need medication" to "we build special, special rooms for this" in like, ten paragraphs. That's pretty damn impressive.

Anyone up for a beta?

I suggest you keep your expectations low. The above is not a hypothetical. And is also not SGA.

In other news, Child hates Kowalski. "He's making Fraser sad," Child says, staring at me resentfully. "Vecchio was better."

The worst part is, I had to wait until he took the summer of his discontent to his room to laugh. Ribs hurt. Ow.

7/2/08 09:42 pm - [info]twistiedoodle - Education Legislation...starts with an E and that rhymes with P and that stands for...

Pondering Pedagogy
I had an interesting day today, part of which was spent volunteering at the Grassroots Campaign Headquarters. This got me thinking that perhaps I should do some more research into the candidates, so when someone asks me, "But why are you voting for ____?" I can have a more responsible answer.

As you might imagine, the most important issue to me at the moment is Education. I've been pondering next year, making little notes to myself about this and that, and have been wondering what kind of changes (read: what kind of useless, retarded-ass paperwork are they going to make us do for the next, newest form of ill-planned legislation?) are likely to occur if either candidate is elected (no, I'm not even curious about Nader's plan for ed...okay, that's a lie. Now I'm curious).

Obama and McCain on Education )

Rant over. Did that last bit even make sense to anyone else? McCain sometimes makes me a little hysterical. But I think I've come to an understanding with myself, which was helpful. Feel free to pitch in with opinions, I'd like to hear what other people think.

BTW: Nader's stance on education is here: http://www.votenader.org/issues/social/education/

7/2/08 09:18 pm - [info]lanning - an account of how bad I suck

A few days before Con.txt, I found a folder with unanswered email in it -- feedback for my stories. Some of these are from JANUARY. Gah. There was a time when I answered my mail within 24 hours. I'm such a damn screw-up. My apologies to anyone here who emailed me and didn't receive an answer. I really do appreciate the time and effort required to send feedback. I'm going to answer these, even if it is six months too late.

I can haz new brain now? *sigh*

7/2/08 10:35 pm - [info]ffutures posting in [info]twsthellmouth - Drabble: Five Parental Nightmares Xander Never Had

This is a drabble I originally posted as a chapter in the Round Robin story Daddy's Coming to Visit Mommy's Come Calling but apparently the parents I chose aren't evil enough to qualify under the terms of the original challenge. So I've deleted it and reposted it as a stand-alone.

All characters belong to their respective creators, not me, this story may not be distributed on a profit-making basis.

Pairing: mostly gen, with some Martha/Tom

Word count: 3,687
Summary: She's realized that she wants to build herself a new life, a bigger one, one that can fit people who aren't the last of the Time Lords. Martha Jones in the aftermath.

7/1/08 12:56 pm - [info]seperis - my lunch is filled with vague not-hallucinations

Ghost moose. Good idea/bad idea?

Please don't--ask. I'm sleep deprived, at work today is the deadline for our test scripts for the program, and I seriously here thinking, ghost moose. Wandering Chicago. I don't think it's a mission of vengeance, but honestly, I didn't get any farther than saying it and starting a sentence using it before I realized that is completely insane. I think the real problem here is, I'm sublimating my desire for a pony.

I really need sleep. And I probably will not be getting it until Friday. OTOH, there is caramel coffee at work and that kind of makes the universe worthwhile.

Reminder

Dead Letter Variations Challenge continues to run until August 31st. Any fandom, any type, any length, as many as you want, all rules are listed in the post, but basically this:

take a character.

kill him/her.

let him/her write one last letter. it can be to the world. it can be to a particular person. it can be to no one.

s/he's died, and this is all that remains.

And I accept variations on this; if you think your story fits, I am not going to argue the point. I'm just cheap and want fic, basically.

And...that's done. Going to go--work I think. Since I'm here and all.

Another silly idea drabble that will eventually be added to my Pushing Daisies crossover round robin They Might Be Drabbles on Twisting the Hellmouth, in which a certain pigeon visits a lot of different fandoms... 100 words (with the help of a little hyphenation).

Spoilers for last week's Doctor Who

7/1/08 01:02 am - [info]seperis - due south - the hangover

*sprawled drunkenly across bed*

I have a Due South hangover. Actually, this reminds me of the time I was tripping in my best friend's not-boyfriend's dorm porch, where I had a long conversation with everyone regarding aspirin. It took several hours. There were also leaves involved and superhearing and later, a game of paintball with balls that had yellow tracks behind them. I also discovered that even knowing a wall existed was enough to set off my claustrophobia.

(weird. I was going somewhere with this. I have no idea where.)

In no particular order--I'm so not kidding, I feel wiped.

A.) Oh. *softly* So that's Kowalski.

I just had what appears to be an epiphany regarding Fraser's extremely narrow concept of who he's willing to become obsessed with. Wow. I--really did think people were exaggerating? But apparently no, no, you were not.

Jesus. Kowalski. I--no, later, when I don't feel vaguely drunk and blank eyed. Jesus.

B.) Season two--wow.

C.) Season three--Jesus Christ

D.) Season four or part two of season three--what the fuck? Really. Really?

E.) No, seriously. I'm in some kind of glowy post-finale--really? Seriously. Oh my God--and I seriously keep forgetting how to type.

Oh my God. Kowalski.

...okay, I'm sorry, but I was emotionally fragile after Victoria and now there's all this--I mean. Okay, stopping now before I forget English.

In further news, my first season discs were stolen by my mother, who has fallen hopelessly in love with Fraser and wants to marry him and have babies. I--nevermind. This is my family. She actually watched the first ep of season three first and got that terrifying fixated look that kind of told me I'll be rewatching everything again with her. I do not find this difficult to do, but I swore Child to silence (he who has stolen my season two discs) because if I had to cry through that, she's damn well going to have it hit her like a train. Family, share, blah blah blah. I am petty and vindictive and I'm going to cry again and that should be shared.

...I really feel like I hallucinated some of this. It's the weirdest sensation.

[info]cesperanza -- I finished your webpage. Eventually I'll send feedback. That was--a lot of fic.

6/30/08 09:35 pm - [info]seperis - pro novella rec - Moonshine by Moira Rogers

My internet access has been icky and I have been in a bad mood adn pretty much the one awesome thing in the universe is Fraser. Yes, it has been that kind of a weekend.

Moonshine by [info]moirarogers - a friend sent me a copy to read, as the friend wrote it and just started e-publishing and I have a weakness like you would not believe for supernatural fantasy. And erotica. Yes, I'm sure you'd believe that part.

I'm torn; I don't want to spoil, but I do want to say what I liked about it. So below cut, very lightly.

very mild spoilers )

Here is also a link to the author's website: http://moirarogers.com/

If the universe is fair, I will not keep having my connection fizzle when trying to read. Let us all send a special feeling of hope toward Road Runner.

Neat e-freak that I am, I put up a page of my favourite yaoi and manga at my site. Two masterlists; everything I enjoy is to be added there.

Today's menu: one mammoth that I liked, a oneshot that squicked me half to death, and a couple of manga that were neither here nor there for me )

6/30/08 01:37 pm - [info]thegraybook

So I've heard from several UK booksellers (and buyers) that City of Ashes is now out in the UK and Ireland – or, you know, trickling out as books do. I'm not going to be in London for the launch this time, which makes me sad, because I love London and I still get excited seeing my book in bookstores there. And I was hoping to do some signings and meet my readers in the UK. So I am sad about this. But there is a good chance that I will be in London in September, and so hopefully I can set some events up then.

In the meantime, if you're feeling broke, you can pick up free copies of several chapters of City of Ashes at Starbucks all across the UK and Ireland. It's part of a promotion they're doing with the National Literacy Trust trying to get teens (and everyone!) to read more books. Since I won't be over in the UK to actually see my book in Starbucks (a very bizarre idea and one of the few things to have impressed my parents) — anyone who catches sight of the teasers:

in Starbucks and sends me a photo, I'll send you a signed copy of Ashes. :)

ETA: On another note, I'm going to be shutting this LJ down in a short while and doing all my updating over at [info]cassandraclare. I'm suffering from too-many-blogs-itis, and I have to do something to consolidate. So if you're interested in keeping up, I'd love it if you'd friend me over there (and feel free to unfriend here.)
